An impromptu adventure

Daisy’s recent milestone birthday celebrations led her to enjoy lunch on her granddaughter’s farm, where she enjoyed a thrilling motorbike ride alongside some of her ten great-grandchildren.

With a twinkle in her eye, Daisy told us of her experience as a ‘bit of a giggle’.

The mere sight of the younger generations zipping around the farm on their bikes drew Daisy back to her youth when she would ride her elder brother’s motorbike around their family farm.

“It was just a spontaneous thing, my grandson-in-law was sitting on this motorbike, and he said to me, ‘Come on, I’ll give you a ride,’” recounted Daisy.

“It was a challenge that I wasn’t going to pass up!” she exclaimed, “I’m glad now I did it, and when I look at the picture, I just laugh!”

A new chapter

Daisy’s adventurous spirit has led her to embrace many new opportunities throughout life.

Daisy, husband John and their children emigrated to Australia from Gloucestershire, England, in the 1960s. After settling in Chittering, north of Perth, the Flemings raised sheep and cattle for more than 35 years.

It was John who first raised the idea of retirement living as an opportunity to right-size their lifestyle. The Pines retirement community posed the perfect location and lifestyle for the next chapter.

“The village looked very attractive, and it was the ideal location, so we decided we’d give it a go,” Daisy smiled, “I can’t believe it, that was 2003!”

Being an active member of the village community has created many friendships for Daisy over the past 20 years. And with ample space to follow her passion for gardening and plenty of surrounding walking trails, she can also enjoy time in nature.

“Being a country girl, I’ve spent so much time on my own, I’m quite independent,” Daisy explained, “So where I am is lovely, it’s the best of both worlds.”

After the sudden passing of John seven years ago, Daisy found great support in her warm social connections at The Pines.

“It’s good to be here. When I think about all the things I’ve done over the past few years, it’s a good life.”

In good company

At The Pines, Daisy finds herself woven into a mosaic of shared community experiences with like-minded neighbours.

She’s thriving in diverse activities and events, from line dancing and the local Probus walking group, to book club and indoor bowls.

“All the things I do keep my brain healthy, and I love walking and being active,” said Daisy, “The best part is the company, and I can do my own thing. I feel very lucky.”

Her unforgettable motorbike ride stands as a testament to her continuing spirit of adventure, “It was just fun and a great laugh,” she chuckled heartily.

In the end, Daisy's story embodies the spirit of The Pines—a celebration of new beginnings, a montage of shared moments, and an ode to the timeless adventure of life.
