Legendary racehorse inspires Australia’s first trackside retirement precinct
Brisbane, 16 October 2019: Lendlease has today unveiled plans for the $270 million Bernborough
Ascot precinct, Australia’s first vertical retirement community built on a racecourse.
The precinct has been named after one of the nation’s greatest thoroughbred racehorses,
Bernborough. From 1941 to 1946, the Queensland-born bay horse frequently compared to Phar
Lap achieved 15 consecutive victories including winning the Doomben 10,000 and Doomben Cup in
the same year.
Developed over four stages under an agreement with Brisbane Racing Club (BRC), Bernborough
Ascot will offer 300 oversized independent living apartments and a wide range of private resort-style
facilities for the ultimate in luxury retirement living.
Bernborough Ascot will feature one, two and three-bedroom apartments and penthouse style homes
with exceptional views and high-quality finishes including state-of-the-art kitchens, stainless steel
appliances and stone bench tops. Prices start at $485,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and $1.4
million for a penthouse.
Private resort style facilities will include a trackside Masters Lounge and Club with bar and gardenfacing
art studio. Plans for future stages include a bowls green, health and wellness studio with a
pool, spa, gymnasium and consulting rooms, a theatre, restaurant, private dining areas and more.
Lendlease offers buyers a choice of purchase options ranging from the traditional deferred
management fee model with a lower entry price and future exit payment, to a prepaid plan where
owners pay no exit fees and retain any capital gain from a future sale.
Construction of Bernborough Ascot commenced in January 2019 with completion of the first stage
expected by around mid-2020.
Lendlease has more than 30 years’ experience in the retirement living sector, owning and operating
72 villages around Australia with approximately 17,000 residents. It has 12 retirement living
communities in Queensland, including two in Brisbane – Keperra Sanctuary, Keperra and The
Terraces, Forest Lake.
To find out more about Bernborough Ascot or register your interest, visit the Sales Display at Suite
14, Upper Level, Racecourse Village Shopping Centre at 188 Nudgee Road, Ascot, call 1800 411
601 or go to www.bernboroughascot.com.
Quote attributed to Managing Director of Lendlease Retirement Living, Tony Randello:
“The two-hectare precinct would give residents the opportunity for an active and connected lifestyle
in an exceptional location close to all essential health and community services, shopping, dining and
entertainment.
“Our vision for Bernborough Ascot is to embrace the history, tradition, and legacy of the Doomben
Racecourse as well as contribute to creating an intergenerational precinct for the Brisbane Racing
Club and the broader Ascot community,” Mr Randello said.
“This new community will provide the best of both worlds – easy connections to the city and ready
access to services, yet in an apartment designed as a retreat from the fast pace of urban life.
“We have also introduced several different contract options that give buyers the freedom and
flexibility to choose the best payment model for their needs.”
Quotes to be attributed to the Chairman of Brisbane Racing Club, Neville Bell:
“Bernborough Ascot was a key pillar of BRC’s $1.2 billion Master Plan, which was transforming the
Doomben and Eagle Farm precinct into a premier multigenerational lifestyle precinct for Brisbane.
“With construction of the first stage well advanced, we are delighted to see this project coming to life
alongside the other residential, retail, commercial and community components of this exciting
region.
“We expect many of our members will be very interested in the possibility of living at Bernborough
Ascot, together with other longstanding locals from this area who now have the opportunity for an
amazing retirement lifestyle in a location they already know and love.”
