Residents bowl their way to fun and fitness

Monday, 06 May 2024

Whether it is exploring new hobbies such as arts and crafts or gardening, staying connected to the community with intergenerational activities or keeping residents active with a sport or recreational activity, there are plenty of options to lead an active and fun retirement lifestyle.

Bowls is one such game that caters to all ages and fitness levels, making it a perfect fit for the senior community. Together with the Mulgrave Country Club, we recently hosted two bowls events which made the residents' enthusiasm for the sport quite clear. Needless to say, they took the game seriously, and welcomed the opportunity to socialise, compete and stay physically active in the process.

Meeting the broader community

Aligning with our mission to keep residents actively engaged, since 2008, we have been hosting a bowls event that sees villages including Peppertree Hill, Waverly Country Club, Waterford Valley Lakes, Waterford Park and The Links at Waterford competing in a fun game of bowls. This year's event featured two bowl triples match, welcoming participants from various bowling clubs across Victoria to come and join in some friendly competition. It was a great occasion for the residents to mingle with the broader community of like-minded people, chatting and enjoying themselves while discussing everything bowls.

Inter-village fun

To spice it up even more, we also organised an Inter-village Resident Bowls tournament that solely featured participants from Keyton villages in Victoria including Waverley Country Club, The Links at Waterford, Lexington Gardens, Fiddlers Green, Waterford Park, Burwood Terrace, Waterford Valley Lakes, Classic Residences, Evelyn Ridge, Martha's Point, Woodlands Park and Abervale. Over the last decade, the tournament has evolved significantly, transitioning from a 4 village tournament to participation of residents from 12 villages across Victoria. This year’s event saw 130 residents and 26 teams  coming together to have an action-packed day for a good cause.

Our retirement villages organise events to promote a sense of belonging, connection and overall health and wellbeing for the residents. Rightly so, the residents had a great time participating in their favourite sport, enjoying the sunshine and socialising with people from the neighbouring villages and the wider community.
