10-minute mobility tips for seniors

Keep your body moving with our quick and easy mobility exercises for seniors you can do every day.

Incorporating exercise into your daily routine doesn’t have to be difficult or time-consuming. But it can be hard to get started, especially if you’re feeling sluggish and unmotivated. Luckily, we’ve got a great list of mobility tips for seniors. These are mobility exercises you can do every day to get your blood pumping and your muscles moving.

And best of all, you can do most of them from the comfort of your own home. So let’s get up and have some fun!

Top tips:  

  • If you have knee problems, concentrate on moving your upper body and vice versa. 

  • Don’t push your body beyond what it can do comfortably.

  • Consult your doctor with any concerns or questions about mobility exercises for you.


1. Air punching

15 punches on each side with a 30-second rest in between. Continue for 10 minutes. If you want a guided session, try this 14-minute seated boxing workout for seniors.


2. Chair yoga

 Search on YouTube for 10-minute yoga movements to do from the comfort of your armchair. Try this 10-minute chair stretch or this 10-minute chair yoga session.


3. Stroll 

 A brisk walk will be much better if you turn it into a daily social engagement. If you can’t get out for a walk, try this 10-minute indoor walking workout.


4. Water workout

Jump into a swimming pool and do a few quick resistance exercises like flutter kicks and calf raises, like these ones from Uplifting Mobility. Luckily, many of our retirement villages have community swimming pools right on site.


5. Squats

The king of all exercises to work your full body. If you can't get low, try a sit-stand squat with a chair. Find out how to do a chair squat.


6. Resistance bands

Using a resistance band is fantastic for low-impact exercises you can do from home. Try this 10-minute resistance band workout for seniors.


7. Balance workout

Balance and mobility go hand in hand. Try this 10-minute workout to improve your balance.
