'Menzies Malvern was the right decision'

Tuesday, 08 August 2023

From the convenient evening meal service, to a varied program of activities, and the warm and welcoming community, it took Kathy and Richard all of 2 weeks to feel right at home at Menzies Malvern.

Kathy and Richard didn’t take the decision to move lightly. They had some initial apprehension about leaving their family home, and they were worried about finding the right place for their retirement.

It took them 18 months and exploring a number of new and established retirement villages in the area, before they finally decided to call Menzies Malvern their new home.

Convenient location and outstanding amenities sealed the deal

The location and surroundings of the village played a big factor in the pair’s decision to move to Menzies. The proximity to a wide variety of shops, restaurants and medical facilities, as well as excellent public transport options made a big difference to them.

Coupled with a spacious apartment, generous undercover parking, 24 hour security, emergency assistance and the many village facilities such as the cinema, Kathy and Richard were quickly warming up to the village.

A warm Menzies welcome

After moving into their new apartment and getting settled, the couple started experiencing what life is really like at Menzies. ‘We had some initial apprehension about our decision to leave our home, but we need not have worried,’ says Kathy. ‘Within two weeks of our arrival we knew our decision to move into Menzies had been the right one.’

‘The staff from manager to cleaner could not have been more welcoming and helpful,’ Richard says. But probably the greatest discovery of those early days was experiencing the warmth and acceptance offered by the existing residents, most of them long term members of the Menzies community.

Special treat: The evening meal service

Another perk of living at Menzies is the evening meal service. Chef Wayde cooks in the village’s restaurant from Monday to Friday.

The food on offer includes a light lunch menu in the dining space, and a 2 or 3 course evening menu with the choice of 2 mains. The menu changes every week, and for Kathy and Richard, it removed the need for frequent restaurant visits outside their village.

That is not to say the pair doesn’t like to stay active otherwise.

‘There is a varied program of activities and social events for those who wish to participate and a major program underway to further enhance the gym, pool and activity centre,’ says Kathy.

‘If we were to summarise what we value most about our life at Menzies it would be having the freedom and security to live our own lives as we wish, together with the opportunity to participate in a vibrant, inclusive and supportive community as we choose.’
