Bernborough Ascot delivers Australian-first 6 Star Green Start Communities Rating

From its solar panels and rainwater tanks right through to its community initiatives and green open spaces, Bernborough Ascot is leading the way in sustainable retirement living, delivering a healthier, more resilient community where residents can enjoy a lifestyle focused on wellbeing and healthy living.

Australia’s first 6 Star Green Star Communities Rating

The Green Building Council of Australia has recognised Bernborough Ascot’s sustainability credentials, awarding it Australia’s first 6 Star Green Star Communities Rating for a retirement Living village.

Keyton CEO Nathan Cockerill said Keyton recognises that many Australians expect and want to live in bespoke communities that respond to their local environment and bring people together in ways that strengthen their sense of community belonging and pride.

“As more Australians recognise the value of living in a sustainable home and community, demand is growing for retirement living options that deliver greater resilience, efficiencies, and value for residents while at the same time protecting and regenerating the environment for future generations.

“Bernborough Ascot residents will benefit from the sustainability measures we’re delivering – not just in terms of driving down energy and water bills but also the lifestyle and health outcomes from living in such a green community,” he said.

A benefit for residents and the broader community

The Green Building Council of Australia CEO, Davina Rooney also recognised the significant benefit of the sustainability credentials of Bernborough Ascot to residents and the broader community.

“This is an Australian-first achieving a 6 Star Green Star Communities rating for a retirement community masterplan. This means Bernborough Ascot is at a world-leading standard and its residents and surrounding community are now poised to enjoy the enormous benefits sustainable buildings create for people.”

Unique design with sustainability in mind

Every aspect of Bernborough Ascot has been meticulously planned and considered. From the home orientation and windows to the green spaces and communal gardens, residents can enjoy a home that will not only save money but a home and community they will love living in.

From a design perspective, the 300 luxury-living independent apartments have been strategically and sustainably designed to take advantage of cooling breezes and cross flow ventilation, to lengthen shade periods and provide optimal environments. The buildings are connected by walkways and green spaces and with access to communal gardens and amenities.

Onsite solar panels supply the community with energy and the community has been designed to reduce potable water consumption. Rainwater tanks supply water for irrigation for the precinct’s gardens.

300 luxury apartments

The integrated retirement living community is being constructed in stages, with the first stage opened in October 2020.

When completed, Bernborough Ascot will feature 300 large luxury independent living apartments and penthouse style homes, lifestyle amenities including a bowls green, health and wellness studio with a pool, spa, gymnasium and consulting rooms, a rooftop terrace, restaurant, and outdoor dining areas.

Bernborough Ascot is part of the Brisbane Racing Clubs Doomben and Eagle Farm masterplan precinct, which when complete will be Brisbane’s largest master planned intergenerational community.
