Carols at Closebourne: A treasured tradition

'Tis the season! Early December, melodies of Christmas carols and the sound of a treasured musical tradition fills the air at Closebourne Village, where the annual Closebourne Carols are held every year.
A trip down memory lane
The tradition dates all the way back to the 1970s, when Carols were first held at the St John's Theological College in the close-by city of Morpeth. When the College relocated, the churches in town were looking for a new home for the Christmas Carols - and Closebourne Village was the perfect spot to uphold the tradition. Fast forward to today, and Carols at Closebourne has been going strong for 11 wonderful years! With the combined efforts of the three churches of Morpeth and Keyton, this event brings the community together through music, laughter and the unmistakable feeling of belonging. The Maitland City Choir leads the singing, accompanied by Closebourne Sings – our very own resident choir – as well as contributions from local school choirs, Morpeth Primary School choir and St Bede's College.

The event offers a range of fun-filled activities for attendees of all ages. From face painting and a sausage sizzle to a coffee cart, crafts, conserves and jams crafted by residents - Carols at Closebourne has something for everyone. The popularity of Carols at Closebourne continues to grow, with around 500 to 600 visitors joining in the celebrations.
