How LED upgrades are brightening our villages

Small change, big difference! Our villages are upgrading to LED lighting and the results are already shining bright.
We’re always looking for ways to make our villages more energy efficient and one of the simplest and most effective upgrades we’ve made recently is switching to LED lighting.
Over the past few months, our Sustainability team has been working closely with village management to replace old lights with more efficient LEDs - and the results are brighter than ever!
LED lighting is making a difference
We’re making the switch to LED lighting in common areas across many of our retirement villages.
Villages in QLD, NSW and Victoria are seeing the benefits, while upgrades in ACT and South Australia are being investigated. With government rebates covering 30% to 95% of the cost (depending on the state), these upgrades are cutting energy use, saving money and creating brighter, more welcoming spaces.
Why LED lighting?
One of the biggest perks of LED lighting is energy efficiency. Compared to traditional incandescent or fluorescent lights, LEDs use up to 70% less energy. That means lower electricity bills and a big reduction in power consumption which is good for saving money and great for the planet!
Another win? LEDs last much longer. In fact, they can last 10 to 20 times longer than older bulbs, which means fewer replacements and lower maintenance costs. Less time spent changing bulbs means more time enjoying well lit, inviting spaces.
What it means for our villages
✅ Lower energy bills: LEDs use significantly less power, helping to reduce overall costs.
✅ Better lighting quality: Residents are noticing a real difference, with brighter, clearer and more welcoming spaces.
✅ Less maintenance: With a much longer lifespan, there’s less need for frequent replacements.
✅ Quick return on investment: Energy savings are expected to cover installation costs within 1 to 5 years.
