When it comes to trying new activities, the report found that retirement village residents are more likely to say they want to experience an outdoor adventure compared to those who live in their own home. Whether it's exploring new hiking trails, joining a cycling group or just taking in the beauty of nature, retirees in our villages are embracing the great outdoors with gusto.

Want to be inspired by those who are already experiencing the great outdoors for themselves? Take a look at Ken and Margaret’s story of adventures through Western Australia’s goldfields.

If you prefer to stay closer to home, there’s plenty of outdoorsy fun right in our villages. From community gardening groups to enjoying a day on the green, there’s often no need to travel far for a little outdoor excitement!

Feels like team spirit

Looking to be part of a squad? 16% of men and 12% of women said they are keen to join a team or try something new in retirement. Whether it's joining a walking group, craft circle, book club or the village bowls team, there’s no shortage of options.

Love at any age

George and Pam found love in their retirement village

Retirement villages are full of wonderful stories of people finding love later in life and many say that intimate relationships are key for a healthy and long life. Take George and Pam for example, love found them through shared interests and a community that helped heal old wounds. After losing their respective spouses, both found solace and connection in the charming village of Evelyn Ridge

When it comes to meeting a new partner, 9% of people in retirement villages said they’re interested in giving online dating a go, compared to only 4% of those who live on their own. From lifelong partnerships to dating later in life, intimate relationships can enhance your wellbeing and bring even more joy to your retirement.

Retired, but still the boss

Retirement is the perfect time to turn your passion into an enterprise, with 8% of men and 6% of women in villages considering starting their own small business.
