When Roger, a resident of The Baytree, was looking for a new place to call home, he had a few key criteria: a single-level residence in a peaceful environment, close to emergency services for peace of mind and a balance between spending time alone and socialising.
Three and a half years ago, he found all of this and more at The Baytree by Ardency. Making the move
A pharmacist by profession, Roger lived in a terrace house in Lavender Bay for 10 years before moving to The Baytree with his cat, Bender in 2020. He recalls, "I received some promotional material on The Baytree in the mail. I visited the building and really liked the onsite café but didn’t consider moving. However, I never got rid of the flyer."
While Roger loved his terrace home, a few issues arose over the years that made him reconsider retirement living. "A family of very noisy neighbours moved in and made life difficult. On top of that, I had a minor heart attack. This started to make me think that I needed to move. I was looking for a home where I could live on a single level in a peaceful environment that was close to emergency services where I could get help when I needed it. Ten years later, I dug out The Baytree flyer, made the call and never looked back."

The presence of a registered nurse onsite two days a week to treat residents in their apartments and liaise with medical professionals, along with a 24 hour emergency call system, provided him with the peace of mind he needed.
When Roger visited The Baytree, he was floored by the apartments and knew immediately he would move in. He loved the design and spaciousness of the homes. "I didn’t feel like I was downsizing. My unit has as much room in the main living area as I had in my dining and living rooms combined in my terrace home. I have a large balcony, a garden and a spectacular view of the Blue Mountains. I can honestly say that I could have lived in this place at any stage of my life."

Roger also loves the gardens surrounding the building. The onsite café and restaurant featuring a wall of glass provide the best view of trees and the sky beyond. “This view is fairly hard to find in Sydney and I was completely sold by this.”
The Baytree is located within five kilometres of Sydney's centre and a five minute drive from the retail hubs of Chatswood, Crows Nest and Lane Cove. Leading an independent lifestyle
Roger loves his independence and freedom and living at The Baytree supports that lifestyle. “What I enjoy most about living here is the independence. I can come and go as I wish. I can participate as much or as little in group activities as I want to. There's no coercion and there's no resentment if you don't join in. It's the freedom.”
Roger enjoys his own company, saying, "I spend a lot of time in solitary pursuits. I like walking, gardening and I've got a big balcony with three lemon trees, herbs and flowers. In my quiet time, I like to read, listen to music and cook."

They are friendly and helpful, always going out of their way to assist when you reach out,” says Roger. He also speaks highly of the resident community, “When I moved here, everyone was so welcoming. People are friendly and despite coming from different walks of life, they get along so well, which is heartwarming.”
The Baytree boasts an extensive array of social groups and clubs, either run by residents or facilitated by Ardency staff, including book clubs, social bridge, IT classes and travel seminars. With access to all these activities, Roger finds a great balance between enjoying his personal interests and socialising with others. “I attend group discussions
and musical events at the resort. I also go out for lunches with my long-time friends in Sydney. While I usually stay in at night, I occasionally go out for daytime concerts.”
